Heliconia

Here is yet another heliconia. This variety is a heliconia wagneriana. I mentioned yesterday that some heliconia flowers, such as yesterday's, hang down and some others, such as today's photo, grow upwards.

This type of heliconia grows 2 - 4 meters tall (6 - 13 ft.) , and is native to an area from Belize and Guatamala south through Costa Rica to Ecuador.

There is a lot of green popping up out of those blossoms when they open. Very interesting flower.

I intended leaving a comment yesterday and clicked on Viva la Voyage and that was me done for over an hour. What fabulous photos and goodness, how many places you've both visited.

As to heliconias, I discovered them when I lived in Cairns and have loved them ever since. Had loads of different ones in the garden and marvelled at them all.
