I find their scales, spikes on their spines, and dew laps fascinating to look at, but they find something about humans fascinating to gaze at. Maybe they are just waiting to see if we are one of the stupid humans who will do something stupid, like aggressive, threatening moves towards the iguana.
This week we are showing photos of Iceland on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site.

He looks like a dragon who could really use a load of skin lotion!
When in Mexico I found numerous iguanas, all of whom were quiet and curious...up to a point. Sometimes they spook easily and are often stressed by tourists with cameras.
This one looks like he's shedding a layer of skin or scales. Fantastic close up shot!
i love iguanas and this photo is great
He is a pretty neat critter. I had one chase me around a palm tree to get the hibiscus in my hair. I finally threw the flower to him and he left munching on my hair adornment. (St. Thomas)
These are so interesting. I think they are much happier in the wild than they are as a pet. Nice close up.
Dave...You have done what my hysband and I so want to do....MOVE to COSTA RICA. After 3 trips down to the Osa Peninsula we are ready. I have started following your blog; your photography is wonderful, and I have been enjoying your posts greatly. You really catured this iguana in all of his glory; a superb shot. Kudos....Genie
Hi Dave from Costa Rica. Our first encounter with iguanas was in south Florida...walking on a sidewalk lined with thick shrubs and palms...a couple ran out in front of us and we darn near died! We had never seen them before and I thought they had to be some exotic creature from another world! ;-
Well, now south Florida's overrun with them, although a number died from the cold last winter and I supposed that will happen again this year.
Our daughter, who lives in Ft. Lauderdale, tells us she sees them walking down the sidewalks of some of the main streets! And she has 10-15 living in the trees in back of her house. But they are very shy and run when a human comes near!
When their house was being built one of the workmen tried to catch them...got bit pretty badly!
Great portrait, Dave. I have not had the honor of meeting an iguana in nature. However, a woman down the street from me has about 35 iguanas with the run of the house. Whenever someone decides that they are tired of having an iguana for a pet, the humane society calls her and asks her to take it!
this looks like a great blog. I always wanted to see Costa Rica.
Just found you through Barcelona & am now following you.
