I think the highway engineers got a little carried away when they designed the sign in this photo. I have never seen a car on a hill this steep. Not even in San Francisco.I think this sign succeeds in getting attention and communicates its message.

It would make me slow down.
It's a multi purpose sign. If you turn it a bit it will be telling you that the road goes downhill. Or turn it a little less and it will tell you that the road is flat.
I suppose that getting attention is the primary focus!

That's too funny! We have done something this steep only once, but it was on a Jeep trail that is considered difficult, Poughkeepsie Gulch close to Ouray and Silverton.
