This triangular shaped house, visible from a distance in yesterday's photo, was owned by the late Michael Landon, according to the guide who accompanied us on a tour of the Central Valley. Michael Landon, of course, was the star of the Bonanza, Little House on the Prairie and Highway to Heaven TV series.
Michael Landon died in 1991 at the age of 54 of pancreatic cancer. Despite that early passing, he was on U.S. network TV series for 28 years, which is an accomplishment few actors have achieved. He was also frequently the TV host for the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California on New Year's Day each year.

The fact that U.S. TV and movie stars have found retreats in Costa Rica speaks well of the country. As I mentioned in an earlier post, it recently became known that Mel Gibson has a house a little south of Tamarindo. The local papers in Costa Rica carried photos of Britney Spears on the beach with her family while they were vacationing using Mel Gibson's house.

What a beautifully interesting house and I love that it was Michael Landon's. Sad story about such a great person, I still watch Little House :)
My dad is looking into buying a home in Costa Rica after retirement. I guess alot of San Diegan's are coming down there!
Tanya,
You are correct that there are a lot of folks from California in Costa Rica. Our condo building in Langosta has 20 units, and several owners are from California. Only one is a Costa Rican. Mostof the residents and property owners in Tamarindo are international residents who have moved there or who have vacation or retirement condos or homes there.
What an unusual building. It looks so small.
What a strange shaped house. That must be difficult to furnish I'd think without any right angles inside. Perhaps not?
re Eze - yes it seems they change the umbrellas for autumn.
what a funny house. It looks small?
I agree with the comments above that the house looks small, and of course it is an unusual shape. I cannot tell whether it has a third floor where the smaller windows are. It would be more livable if there were childrens' bedrooms upstairs.
My secretary recalls seeing a magazine article decades ago that showed the challenges for Michael Landon in decorating the interior rooms with the severe angles from the triangular shape. If you went to that house for a party, it would be easy to be cornered.
It is small, but what a wonderful retreat in such a busy concete world.
While the house looks small it is actually bigger than it looks. I visited Costa Rica in July 2011 and the picture provided does not show the parking lot and other buildings that puts things more in perspective. My photo (which I can't download)shows these things and the house is quite large. It has been turned into a museum since Michael Landon's passing. He built the house in this location because he fell in love with Costa Rica while filming and chose this shape because he wanted to be able to see the view from every angle. At least that is what we were told by our guide. The surrounding hills and valley were absolutely georgeous and if I had the funds I would have done the same.
The house was built by Loudon family. And Michael Loudon was a prominent architect. Michael Landon the great actor never had that property
