This plant is popularly known as a Christmas candle plant because it blooms like this only around Christmas time, and of course it resembles a yellow candle. This plant can grow as tall as 10 meters (30 ft.). Its scientific name is senna
alata. It grows naturally in Asia and Africa as well as tropical areas of the western hemisphere. Any frost, however, kills the plant, so it is no wonder that it does well in Costa Rica.
