Papagayo golf course

This is a view of the golf course at Papagayo, which is about 45 minutes north of Tamarindo. The Papagayo peninsula is a master-planned community with a Four Seasons Resort and housing.

The golf course hugs both sides of the spine of the Papagayo peninsula, so it provides views in all directions, out to the ocean and to the the Gulf of Papagayo. This is a view to the ocean side of the peninsula. Tomorrow I will post a photo of the golf course and a view to the Gulf of Papagayo.

It is necessary to make reservations not merely to play golf, but even to drive onto the Papagayo peninsula. Reservations to play golf or to have lunch at the restaurant at the golf course do not entitle a person to visit the hotel, however. A separate reservation must be made even to see the Four Seasons Hotel lobby. I will post more information about Papagayo in the days and weeks ahead, including some more photos of the golf course, the hotel, and even a few aerial photos taken when our plane flew over the Gulf of Papagayo.

It sounds like the Four Seasons resort is pretty exclusive if you can't even get into the lobby without a reservation. Interesting.

Sharon,
It is indeed exclusive. The first time we went we simply drove up to the guard station at the entrance and Julie was able to talk her way into them giving us a visitor pass to go to the restaurant at the golf course. After lunch we drove on to the hotel figuring that we could look around the lobby. We were surprised that there was another guard station and they would not let anyone past unless your name was on a list, and you could not get your name on the list except by calling at least 24 hours in advance.

The second time I went, which was with my mother-in-law, we had called ahead for a lunch reservation and to get on the list to see the hotel. That enabled us to see the hotel, although I was surprised, as I will describe in an upcoming post, that they had a staff member meet us and give us a guided tour. We were not allowed to simply walk around and browse.

How beautiful. I don't play golf but I can appreciate the beauty of this gorgeous place. I'd forget to hit the ball with that view!

I'm so glad you're posting photos of Papagayo because I've considered buying a fractional ownership in one of the villas. It'll be great to read and see what it's like from a non-pr/sales approach.

Now that is a golf course! And I do remember having lunch and a Mojito on the patio.(Probably mispelled the Mojito)

Kuanyin Moi,
It is interesting that you are considering buying a fractional ownership at Papagayo, as you live in Maui. To me, Papagayo is like a slice of Hawaii attached to Costa Rica. I will show and explain more in the posts over the next week or so.
