How does one reach such a high vantage point? The easy way is shown in the second photo.
The second photo shows the path of the sky tram extending up the mountainside from the lake. Here is a link to the website of the sky tram. It is possible to walk down, or, for the adventurous, to take zip lines down. (I will show more photos of that later.)
Here is a view from a distance through the forest, and if you click on the photo to enlarge it, you will see the perfectly shaped crater of Arenal Volcano. I will show more photos of the volcano in the coming days, including photos of the summit and a photo of the lava flowing at night.
With such a lush forest in this area, perhaps you can understand that my very good friend and high school debate partner from St. Louis, Missouri, USA, made a decision to give up his law practice and to start a ginger farm in the Arenal area of Costa Rica. He has built a guest lodge for people to stay in his tropical paradise.

Beautiful shots. I think I'd choose to walk down. I'm not sure I could do the zip lines again.
ReplyDeletei can't wait to see more of Arenal and since it is an active volcano, I hope we will see some lava and red heat from the lava. These were very nice photos. I award you with the Kreativ Blogger award for all of your hard work and creativity in sharing Costa Rica with the rest of the world. Now you must post the Kreative Blogger award on your site and nominate others.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous shots! I would have loved to try the sky tram! I think they also have one at Braulio Carrilho N.P., but I haven't stop there on my way to Tortuguero. There is so much to see in this country you simply can't go everywhere...
ReplyDeleteI've just read Julie's comment now and yes, Arenal vulcano deserves a visit. I was not lucky to have a clear sky on the day I went there, so I didn't see a thing, but I had dinner at the base of the cone and at night I was thrilled with all the red lava coming from the top. Awesome!
ReplyDeleteWow things to come on the volcano front.
ReplyDeleteI'll take the easy way. Glad you got the shot. Very nice.
ReplyDeleteLove this lush area, a person could spend time with nature.
ReplyDeleteI had the opportunity to ride the sky tram and run the zip lines on my trip to Arenal last May. The vistas from the tram and the zip lines are amazing. We stayed at the Arenal Lodge and the volcano cooperated during our entire 4 day stay.
