We will transition from the photos of a poison reptile during the last two days to another reptile. This is a close up of the head of a caiman. I apologize that the photo is not sharper, but he was lurking in a shadowy area of a river in a dark area of the jungle. You can see the vertical slit of his eyes.He was very still, lurking below the water's surface, waiting for a bird or other prey to come near.

I have haver ventured out at night in an area where I could see a crocodile or caiman. There are some crocodile in the Tamarindo estuary on the north end of town, but I have not ventured there at night.
Julie did go on a night excursion across the estuary to the beach at Playa Grande with a park ranger to stake out and watch for the endangered leatherback turtles to come up and lay eggs. She saw lots of fire flies.
My greatest night jungle experience occurred in the Amazon. I apologize if I told this story before.
I went on a night hike in the jungle. I was attacked by a crazed wild animal who came right at me, attracted by the flashlight of the person walking next to me. With my lightning quick reflexes I deflected his attack with my forearm, which actually made contact with the wild animal.
What was this aggressive jungle species who attacked me? A hummingbird.

What a great capture you got there. A group of 7th graders in my son's school are in Costa Rica this week on a fabulous spring break trip - they are so lucky. I will just enjoy the area vicariously thru your blog.
This guy looks quite fearsome. Wouldn't want to put my hand in the water.
