Notice that there is a lifeguard kayak in the foreground. The hotels in Tamarindo contribute money to pay for lifeguards to help provide safety for swimmers. That is an important public service because the town government for Tamarindo is located in Santa Cruz, about one-half hour inland. The local community is much more interested in having lifeguards than is the government inland.
