Stormy sea

I usually show photos of Tamarindo in nice weather, which is most of the time. November to April is sunny and clear almost all the time, with virtually no rain.

At other times of the year, it is usually nice as well, but sometimes we get a tropical shower and sometimes the Pacific can kick up some waves. This is a photo of the turbulent sea off Playa Langosta. I will show another photo from this same storm tomorrow.

Supplement: In the comments to today's photo, I have answered a question from Brattcat about taking this photo. I used a 15 times zoom telephoto to shoot up the beach, which exaggerates the haze and cloudiness. It was not raining when I took this photo.

This week we are showing a very different sea at the island of Hvar on the coast of Croatia on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site.

Dave, I think it's important to show all sides of a location, postive and negative. This is a sea I would avoid if I were a maritimer

Is this taken inside or did you brave the elements for this dramatic shot?

Brattcat,
To answer your question, I took this photo from the beach, shooting up the beach with a 15 times zoom telephoto. The telephoto exaggerates the haze or cloudiness in the photo because the picture is shooting through so much air.

It was not raining when I took the photo. I did not have the brave much in the way of elements, other than an ocean breeze with the temperature a pleasant 80 degrees or so. If it started to rain, I could easily walk inside our condo which is right on the beach near where I took this photo.

I took this photo in July during the same visit with my brother in law that I have shown in my beach photos such as the ones yesterday and the several previous days.

It does look a bit stormy here!

You have made the ocean look quite eerie in this beautiful photograph.

It's easy to forget how powerful the sea is when looking over body of calm water...

You've reminded us here that the ocean is never to be taken lightly and its charms can quickly turn ugly!

I like so much to look at the sea or ocean when it is in angry mood. From safe distance.

Nice to be able to shoot that close to home I guess.
