Tamarindo Bay is the nesting site of the endangered Pacific leatherback tortoise. I have never seen one. My wife did a nighttime watch with a park ranger and saw lots of fire flies, but no tortoises came ashore to lay eggs.
I have seen sea turtles in the ocean at Tamarindo, as I have shown on this website in the past. Today's photo of a cluster of turtles was not taken out in the wild, although I have seen turtles like this in the wild. These turtles were sunning themslves in the water feature of the Garden Plaza shopping center in Tamarindo.
This week we have photos of the Villa Melzi in Belllagio, Italy on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site. Bellagio is one of our favorite places, and the gardens of the Villa Melzi are a delight to visit.
There are turtles under the water, but I don't know if it's a rock or actually a turtle!
ReplyDeleteawesome shot
ReplyDeleteThese guys do seem to be soaking up the sunshine!
ReplyDeleteThey look like they are really enjoying their sunbath!
ReplyDeleteA lot of them too! This is a fun shot.
ReplyDeleteI sent a lady there for 2 weeks on a "Turtle Seminar" once.
ReplyDeleteThat is a nice photograph, Dave. You have a turtle pile-up and smooth rocks that look like turtles.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool gathering! As to the sea turtles, I have never seen one in the wild...
ReplyDeleteHow fabulous. Love the sun on their backs. think it must be rather nice to be a turtle!
ReplyDeleteJust returned from a visit to Tamarindo... and wanted to let you know that I saw baby turtles at Avallanes. We were walking before sunset, and I found 3 baby turtles... 2 of which were not alive, but 1 that (after I picked it up and brought to the water's edge) seemed to revive, so I let it go in the shallow water.
ReplyDeleteAlso saw many sand dollars (alive) in the sand on this beach.
