I mentioned yesterday that the shells provide habitat for crabs. This is a close view of a portion of yesterday's photo, showing a crab amidst the shells and fragments of coral.When walking in the estuary and looking at the shells, often times they move from the hermit crabs inside.
The local culture is not to take shells from the beach in protected marine areas.

These shells are very pleasantly colorful. Not screaming, but beyond subtle. I am sure there is a word for that, but it escapes me.
I'm sure I knew about shells providing a "home" for crabs...but this is a nice colorful reminder.
I wish I had some of these shells for some of my elementary school teachers. I mean, talk about "crabs"!
Cute little guy! My son used to have a pet hermit crab when he was little.
Now I know why there are so many shells left on the beach there! No beach-combing for shells. Good idea, otherwise these little guys would have no house.
