When I was standing at the entrance to the church, I happened to notice the shoes in today's photo and stepped back, zoomed in, and snapped. Evidently the high heel fashion craze has now even penetrated small, rural Costa Rican towns, at least on this particular Saturday night.
Jilly of Monte Carlo Daily Photo is particularly skilled at these types of photos.
During the first week of August each year, many Costa Ricans make a pilgrimage to the Basilica de Nuestra Senora Los Angeles (Our Lady of the Angels) in Cartago, which I have shown in the past. Many of the faithful walked a long distance. The police set aside one lane of the road from San Jose for the crowds walking to Cartago. The newspaper reported that this year more than 2 million people visited the Basilica during the week. And this is in a country with a population of only about 5 million people! I hope that none of the people walking to the Basilica in Cartago were wearing shoes like the woman wore to church shown above.
We are showing photos of Bellagio, Italy, and Lake Como this week on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site. Come see the location that inspired a Vegas casino.
Love those shoes
ReplyDeleteAs I always said, "Every woman should have a pair of red shoes!" If Julie doesn't have one, go out immediately and buy her some red ones!!
ReplyDeleteGreat photo. dave!
Kate,
ReplyDeleteI am sure Julie appreciates your sentiment, but the last thing I would attempt to do is buy any article of clothing for Julie. You may be comforted to know that the most colorful room in the house is Julie's closet.
Well, Dave, Julie should know that I have her best interests at heart!! I'd like to see that closet. Hmmm...any cast-offs??!
ReplyDeleteMaybe you should expand your photographic adventures - you're good with shoes. A very cool pic!
ReplyDeleteRe your comment about Xmas - it's not too cold in either Arizona or Florida when we celebrate Xmas either! :-)
Nice color! However, I can't imagine walking any great distance in shoes like these.
ReplyDeleteI would never be able to walk anywhere in shoes like that! I like the red though.
ReplyDeleteWow! Pretty fancy.
ReplyDeleteBalance, most difficult mean of movement, yet the most successful one.
ReplyDeletePlease have you all a good Thursday.

Why, I have a pair just like them, Dave!
ReplyDeleteQue buena foto, no se ven muy cómodos :/
ReplyDeleteDefinitely not the kind of shoes I would expect to see in a Costa Rican church! :-) Cool shot.
ReplyDeleteDave, many thanks for the mention. Of course we see these shoes everywhere in Monte Carlo. So these shoes are worn to enter church I take it. That's different...
ReplyDeleteKeep up the shoe shots. They are such fun.
