Theme Day: Fences

Today's world-wide Dailly Photo Theme is "fences." I am posting this photo of a rancher fixing his fence as a tribute to all of the people who have built and maintained fences. It can be hard work that the rest of us take for granted.

I liked the expression on his face. Ticos, as Costa Ricans are called, are friendly by nature. Costa Rica has recently been rated as the happiest country on earth.

Ticos are courteous and helpful to tourists. Everyone knows that tourism is the number one industry in the country and very important to the economy and standard of living.

This week we have photos of a mussel ranch in Nova Scotia on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site.

It looks like hard work done with pleasure. Delightful photo, Dave, of what looks like an industrious and happy man. May you have a happy week, too.

It's always good to see someone enjoying their work. I like the sound of the Ticos Dave, it's a bit like the Balinese people, they are so sweet and kind, and also very aware that tourism is their main economy.

Excellent portrait. And I know how difficult it is to keep ranch/farm fences mended! But critically important.

I think I'd like Costa Rica!

I know how hard this is because I have done it myself. Great pick for theme day.

He does look very happy to pose for you and take a short break from his work!

I think Costa Rica is the first country where I saw fence posts that had taken root and were producing new trees ! It happens all over the world in countries where the climate is hot and humid of course, but I think it's amazing.

Great shot, Dave. I love the fact that you photographed not only a fence like many of us but a man who actually builds and maintains one. It is hard work indeed but what a smile !

In fact that's what amazes me most in your series about this ranch : everyone you took a photo of has a great big smile. Costa Rica is a lucky country. Its people is a great asset!

Building fences would sure be a tough job - not for me! That's wouldn't be my "gift."
