Crabs on the road

After yesterday's photo of a small crab to illustrate the discovery of kiwa puravida, a new species of crab deep in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Costa Rica, I thought I would post this photo of a crab on the road.

I took this photo back in July, when a certain species of crabs comes out at night and crosses the beachfront road between Tamarindo and Playa Langosta. I don't know why they leave the beach and walk into the woods, although I presume that maybe it is too mate. I am sure that the raccoons and coatis are delighted with the crabs venturing out.

This photo shows the advantage of having a camera with a view finder screen that swivels out from the camera into a horizontal position. It lets me take photos such as this by looking down at the camera, rather than lying down on a damp road with a bunch of crabs to try to look through the view finder.

This week we have photos of the fall colors of Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site.

i've encountered more than my share of 'crabs' on the road. most don't look quite like this.

I've got one of those cameras, too. That darn Brattcat, stole my thunder ... she said exactly what I was going to say.

I guess it shows I'm almost as smart as she is! The key word there is "almost." Heh, heh!

Well, you certainly have been crabby lately...so different from your usual cordial self. It's a terrific photo and the first time I've come face-to-face with a real crab. Incidentally, I am always in awe of the instinct behavior of animals.

Brattcat's comment made me laugh out loud. Glad you didn't have to get down on the road with these guys milling about.

One way or another, aren't most animal behaviors about trying to mate? (My camera has a swivel viewfinder, too, and I love it for exactly this reason.)

BTW, we went to Marksburg Castle, too. It was an interesting excursion, but I didn't like any of my pix from there. Go figure.

If I had known that all of the travel we did with our kids would lead Susie to end up half a world away from us, I would have reconsidered the plan. But, our son, who went on most of the same trips, sticks very close to home. Again, go figure.

I'm just picturing you laying in the road with a bunch of crabs.

I knew there would be some fun comments to read here.

We bet a number of people are glad to see them walk a little closer to the steam pots too.

Great shot.
