Emergency kit for the car

On my last trip to Costa Rica, when the Hertz car rental agent went over the car with me, he showed me the emergency kit. That was new. He said that a new law requires that all cars to have an emergency kit and seat belts. Police can give you a ticket if you don't have one an emergency kit or are not wearing a seat belt.

Of course there will be a charge if you return the rental car without the emergency kit.

I mentioned yesterday that in mountainous areas of the country in particular roads can be a challenge. There will be times that I am sure people will be grateful that they have an emergency kit in their rental car.

We have photos of the villas in Bellagio, Italy on the shores of Lake Como posted on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site.

Very interesting concept and I assume appreciated if necessary. I wonder how many other countries do this? Since I have no illusions about crime in our country, I can envision a wave of thefts, leaving the poor drivers with a bill for the missing kits. But, then again, I wonder if it's something "the market will bear?" Would there be a market for the stolen merchandise? I guess I'd better go brew my morning coffee or I will continue to ramble on and type nonsense!! (No, I haven't been drinking...too early!)

These are good things to have in a car anywhere. I know that when I lived in Minnesota back in the "good old days," it behooved one to ensure that the trunk contained things such as a working flashlight, blankets, gloves, ear muffs, etc.

Notice how Kate rambled on. Probably the cold Minneesota winter! ;-)

I hope they also make sure there is a tire jack in the car. I remember when Julie and I were there we got a flat tire and could not find the jack anywhere. Luckily the security guard at the condo found a way to help us change the tire.

Looks like a lot of stuff in that bag. We always make sure we have tire chains and the like this time of year. I'm sure there were no tire chains in that bag. Or was there?

This is a great post, good to know that other countries are prepared as well. I feel sad that most people are not prepared either at home or away from home. I realize this when I ask if all my friends and family have a good emergency kit with them. I was shocked that only a very few do. So I decide to get emergency kits for them this holiday. I found a PROMO code for 10% off, holiday10off at site below. enjoy and share away

When I was younger, cars were always having flat tires or dead batteries or failed alternators, etc. These days (knock on wood) such problems are pretty rare. It is probably a combination of carmakers making reliability improvements and me driving better cars. But, out of habit, all of my cars still have a kit like this.

Sounds like a good idea. When my children got their fist cars they also had to have an emergency box in trunk with: flashlight, water, jumper cables. In Arizona the water was a priority.

Yes, we had one in our Hertz rental last year. And those roads! I will never forget the - rubble is a better word than gravel - road up the mountain to Monteverde on our first visit to CR.

Safety first is always a great concept.

It's a good concept for rentals. Well, it's vital for car owners to keep some form of emergency kit, one that would fit the area they are in. It's always handy to have something stashed for bad weather and the possibility of accidents on the road.
