Cattle drive

When traveling the back roads of Costa Rica near Tamarindo, this  photo shows a scene that you might see. Local ranchers are taking their cattle from a pasture where they were grazing during the day back to the ranch where the cattle will be spending the night.

It is more like a daily commute than the long cattle drives of the American West.  But, there are cowboys who will ride to keep the herd together as they go down the road.  In this case a motorcycle rider is scooting around the her, which had drifted to  occupy the entire road, rather than staying in their lane.

Today is Sunday, so we have new photos on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site. This week we are showing a few more photos of the Atacama Desert in Chile.  I am sure that you will agree that it is unique.

  1. A daily commute. Interesting. With the lush greenery you would not mistake this cattle drive for Arizona.

  2. It is constant work if one owns a ranch; a daily commute with slow animals must take up a bit of time!

  3. I always like it, when driving down a country road, to come across a cattle or sheep drive with cowboys or cowgirls on horseback. The cattle in your picture have a much more lush grazing land than ours do here.
