After yesterday's photo of a giant mangrove tree, here is a photo of yet another giant tree, although this one has toppled over in the soft, damp soil right next to the mangrove swamp.

That soft, wet soil must make it difficult for some trees to keep their footing.
ReplyDeleteI suppose they have a shallow root system because they don't have to go far for water and nutrients. When violent Midwestern thunderstorms topple a big maple or oak we see a serious rootball.
