A rural scene

Our area of Costa Rica is a land of contrasts.  Tamarindo is a growing international beach resort, yet nearby are villages where people enjoy a rural farming and ranching lifestyle.

Tomorrow I will show a wider view of this scene of a cowboy and horses on the side of the road that illustrates the contrast and changes in rural Costa Rica.

On an unrelated subject, the Costa Rican newspaper had an article the other day that Cirque du Soleil is coming to do one of their shows in Costa Rica for the first time.  I am sure it will be in San Jose.  Julie and I love Cirque du Soleil.   We have seen 5 of their Vegas shows (Mystere, O, Ka, Beatles' Love, and Zarkana) and their show at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood, as well as Cavalia, their traveling horse show.

Today is Sunday, so we have new photos posted on our  Viva la Voyage travel photo site.  This week we are showing some more photos from our November trip to Papua New Guinea, featuring the people of Papua New Guinea.

Nice pic of the roadside cowboy! I would not want to have to take three horses down the road, but he appears to know what he is doing.

I enjoy your photos of the rural scene there. Gives me a greater insight into the native culture.

I wonder if the horses that are being led are rental horses for the tourists. Not sure what other reason there would be for one rider to have that many horses with him.

The scene is very peaceful in this view. I noticed when I was in Scottsdale that Cavalia is here in town right now. You can't miss those tents.

Am I counting some extra legs under the brown horse in the middle of the grouping? Horses had four legs each when I was a boy.

Love Cirque! You and I are about even on Cirque sightings.

Wonder where this cowboy is going with all these horses saddled to ride.

We may go on a coffee plantation tour near Monteverde next weekend and we are hoping to see more of this side of Costa Rica.

We've seen one Cirque du Soleil show in Las Vegas (the water one - O?). I know they are immensely popular but it didn't do anything for me at all. Carolyn liked it better. I'd rather just go to Costa Rica.
