Raccoon at night

I think of raccoons as forest animals, not beach animals, but we do see them walking around at night.

I used a flash for this photo, and the eyes of the raccoon reflected the light of the flash.  The same effect occurred with the eyes of the gecko that I posted yesterday.  It must be due to the size of the pupils to be able to see at night.

This week we have photos of the people of Guatemala posted on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site.

I wonder if he had spots before his eyes after you took that photo.

Little (or not so little) masked bandit. I passed a couple the other night coming out of a building on campus. They looked at me as if to say "what? Nothing to see here, move along."

He seems to be looking right at you.

One of our neighbors has a HUGE and partially hollow tree in our backyard (much too close to our property line since I consider it a wind hazard). For several years it housed a raccoon nursery; some of our neighbors with small children objected and animal control took care of the problem.
