Yesterday I posted a photo of a flower and there was a building that was out of focus in the background. One of the readers, Bratcatt of Brattleboro, Vermont Daily Photo (who often makes great comments about details in photos), asked what the building was in the background. I therefore decided to show today the building in the background of yesterday's photo. It is our condo on the beach in Playa Langosta. This photo was taken from the beach. My wife is visible on the balcony. She is on the phone, which is not unusual.
We have an internet phone in Costa Rica, which means that we can make and receive phone calls to the USA and Canada for free. With wireless internet, we can be working on our laptops, making and receiving phone calls, and we can do a substantial amount of work from our two condos in Tamarindo, Costa Rica. That is what my wife is doing here. Me? I was walking on the beach.
It is late afternoon in this photo. My wife was out on the balcony to check the sun and try to surmise what type of a sunset it was going to be. She is probably talking to her secretary back at her office in Arizona. After all, if she had to take care of some work by phone, why not do so while gazing at the beach, catching a breeze off the ocean, and having the background sound of the surf while working? Oh yes, and it looks like she has a glass of wine in her hand. If she is getting ready for sunset, it was about time for me to finish my walk on the beach and go back to the condo to join her for sunset, and the wine.

Regarding your question about how much a condo in Tamarindo costs, there is a wide variety of prices, based on location, particularly how far from the ocean a condo is located and whether it has a view of the ocean, and based on the amenities of the condo.
A basic, no-frills condo several blocks from the beach can start at about $100,000 USD. A condo with luxury amenities and with a good view of the ocean will be more than $500,000.
There are very few condos that are right on the beach, and building restrictions now willl make it very difficult to build new condos as close to the ocean as ours.
The best way to get an understanding of the local real estate market is to log on to the websites for the Century 21 or ReMax real estate offices in town.
The prices are influenced by the fact that the condos are built for and marketed to foreigners. In our building of 20 condo units, I think only one or two of our co-owners is a Costa Rican. Our Costa Rican lawyer explained to me that he does not live in Tamarindo, but lives in a town about 5 miles (8 km) away because he prefers to live where there are "Tico prices."
