oxen and workers in the river

These are not fishermen, but they are workers. This looks like hard work. Their work method reflects that Costa Rica is still a developing country. as in the USA one would never see the work that they are doing performed in this manner.

Costa Rica ranks close to 100 among nations in per capita income. It ranks high in education and health care. President Laura Chinchilla has set the national goal of being the first Central American country to be ranked as a developed country, and it is much more prosperous than other Central American countries, with four times the average income of nearby Nicaragua.

More tomorrow about what these men were doing and how much income they receive from their labor.

Today is Sunday, so we have new photos on our on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site this week. This week we are showing one of the world's most elegant hotels, the Villa d' Este, on the shores of Lake Como, Italy.

It is quite a contrast, watching these me work with their oxen and cart and then cllicking over to Villa d'Este. THAT is a developed country.

This is a timeless shot, as are all in this lovely series. Really we could be talking years and years ago. Wonderful. I love the photo.
