In addition to the cows, the pasture of this ranch has lots of goats. I don't know what use goats are, except for making goat cheese. I guess goats are also good for clearing brush, but these pastures are already clear.
This week we are showing photos of the Canadian Thanksgiving on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, on our
Viva la Voyage travel photo site. Julie joined some good friends there last month.
goats make great companions, much like dogs, only more mischievous.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a little boy we drank goat's milk and used fresh milk from the nanny goat on cereal like Corn Flakes. It wasn't that great because we had no way to make the milk cold.

Years ago my dad decided to add a few goats to our place. I was in college at the time and asked the same question, "Dad what are goats good for?" His reply: "Burritos." ReplyDeleteI was going to ask if you could eat goats, but from Kathy's comment, it sounds like you can. Is that true?
ReplyDeleteWith a family name translated to 'goat', it was nice to meet family members.
ReplyDeleteNice to see them around in such freedom. Please have a good Tuesday you all.
The folks before me have all given good answers to "Why goats?" I think of goats as omnivores that will eat just about everything in front of them, so their greatest value is in clearing land. I know a utility company that rented goats in the summer to clear transmission rights of way in areas that were too rugged and hilly to be cleared in conventional ways.
ReplyDeleteThe Exonerated was performed while I was out of town. From what I have heard about it, the play is tough going. But, that is the idea . . .
