Calgary Flames in Tamarindo

Here is a banner for the Calgary Flames hockey team.  Tomorrow I will place this into context regarding why there would be a hockey banner amidst the surf culture of Tamarindo.

We have photos of street scene and people of Grenada, Nicaragua posted this week on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site.

I thought that only Canadians, Coloradans, and Minnesotans were crazy about hockey?!

That is one sport or game that I could never get into. I suspect it is because when I was growing up we didn't have hockey pucks or sticks and when ice froze in the winter there were fresh memories of walking to and from school out in the country on ice and snow up to our waist. That was in the days before the roads were plowed and before salt was poured on the roads to melt the ice. And, besides that, the parents didn't have money to buy ice skates so kids skated on the flat soles of their clodhoppers. And there was no television. I don't think real ice hockey was even played in the US except in the larger cities, like Chicago and New York. We had radio but it was usually only turned on by parents who wanted to hear the latest news reports about the war in Japan and in Germany. So, most of us grew up without hearing the word "hockey."

'Tis a conundrum you've set up here. I think Kate is mixed up, though. Canadians, Coloradans and Minnesotans are just plain crazy. Other people are also crazy about hockey. Heh, heh. Just kidding!!!

There are hockey fans everywhere. Prescott Valley even has it's own team. They are called the "Sun Dogs". Maybe I better do a post on them.

Sorry, Dave, I don't have the slightest idea.

I wish I'd seen and photographed this? We'll be in Calgary in July for the Stampede.
