Monthly theme: Paths & Pathways

The February first of the month theme is "paths and pathways." This is the hiking path bridge over a river near the entrance to Rincon de la Vieja National Park. On the far side of the river is the path that leads into the dense cloud forest.

Rincon de la Vieja National Park is a transitional area, from the lowland coastal dry forest, to the higher elevation cloud forest. The volcano provides the sharp elevation gain, which also causes the 32 rivers and 16 seasonal creeks, plus many waterfalls, to exist in the park.

I have shown some of the waterfalls and geothermal and geyser activity in the park in past photos. The path across the river shown here leads into the woods where visitors can see tropical plants and wildlife. I showed some photos recently of a toucan at the Las Pumas Rescue Center and some readers commented that they would like to see a toucan in the wild. I have seen a toucan in the wild in the trees above the trail on the other side of this bridge. Unfortunately, it was too dark in the forest and he was obscured behind leaves and branches, so we had to enjoy spotting and hearing it, but we were not able to photograph it.

Wow. That is some path I don't know if I would take unless I had to. It looks very fragile. It is also a nice photograph.

I wrote in my Memories blog about the roads of my youth and how they were to travel in the winter time.

Abe,
The bridge is plenty sturdy. I will show a photo of it tomorrow to give a different perspective of the bridge crossing the river.

And the the hiking trails on the other side make it well worth the effort to cross the bridge.

Oh, that kind of bridge makes me a bit queasy! But, great photo!

I can only think of the adventures on the other side. Just the walk across the bridge is probably a wonderful sight.

This is a great choice for today theme, Dave! Besides, this kind of 'Indiana Jones bridge' is awesome! :-)

It looks solidly built — does it sway when you go over? ;)

That park is just amazing so I think this is a perfect choice for theme day!

Now your photo certainly stands out in the thumbnails of theme day participants - I love the lush green vegetation and the sense of adventure conveyed by the (seemingly) frail bridge. This is fun! Good choice for today, David!

I personally would have no hesitation on walking on that bridge. In fact I'd be eager to go!

It may look fragile but it's also a fun-looking path.
