Beach iguana

I promised yesterday that I would show a photo that illustrates that we are on a Costa Rican beach, so here is a beach iguana.

It is nice to be able to combine a beach walk with wildlife viewing. At times we can see and hear howler monkeys in the trees that light the beach.

By the way, this is completely unrelated to the subject of today's post, but U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is paying a visit to Costa Rica to meet with the incoming President, Laura Chincilla, who was elected last month to be the first female President of Costa Rica.

This week on our travel photo site, Viva la Voyage, we are featuring photos of Washington, D.C., taken during the special light of sunrise.

Gerald,

Actually, iguanas do not bother people. At least the ones in Costa Rica do not. They will stare, but they do not do anything aggressive. I think we bother them more than they bother us.

South Florida is being overrun with these things! Our daughter in the Fort Lauderdale area has bunches on their property and they're eating everything in sight so I believe they will start shooting them soon.

You're right about iguanas not bothering people...although if you try to grab one it will bite!

He's cute, but I wouldn't want him to sneak up on me while I was sunbathing!

Cute little fella! The iguanas that I saw on the streets of Mexico always seemed to be in stress after being chased by kids and photographers. This guy has a much better environment or so it seems.
