Swimmers, in black & white

I don't normally post black and white photos on this site. In fact, in three and one-half years of doing this site, I don't think I have ever posted a b & w photo until today.

In Tamarindo, taking afternoon photos of the Pacific Ocean means shooting into the sun, of course. This silhouette of a couple of women wading out into the ocean did not have a lot of color, so I tried it in black and white. I think it emphasizes the silvery reflection of the sun on the water.

This week we have photos of the fall colors on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site.

I think you made the right decision here Dave, it really does make the sea shimmer. Beautiful image.

The water sparkles, and the scene lifts my spirits. Our snow is gone now and everything is grim and gray. Never satisfied!!

Perfect for black and white!

Good job. The silhouettes work perfectly with the sun's glimmering on the water.

B&W can be very effective sometimes.

Love the black and white. Cute little crab yesterday.

This is the right kind of setting for a monochrome shot, with the backlighting. The original was probably pretty close to black and white, too.

You like Christmas markets? Maybe you should visit again tomorrow . . .

You are right, this makes a nice B&W.

Very effective.

It was worth it. B and W pictures can be infinitely more subtle than color ones

B&W suits this perfectly. I can't wait to return to Tamarindo in March.
