This bird was perched high on a thorny branch above the estuary. Its beak almost looks like one of the thorns. I assume that it was perched high to get a better view of possible prey in the ground or in the shallow water.
Yesterday's photo of a termite mound caused Kate of Visual St. Paul to post a short poem about termites in the comments. I have added it to yesterday's post and highly recommend that you scroll down to yesterday's post to read it. It is cute, and is classic Ogden Nash.
This week we have photos of ancient Khmer temples of Cambodia on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site.

I'd love to see the poem on your blog, but, David, the termite post isn't there any more.l Better fix it or your readers won't get the Ogden Nash poem!
I like your bird photo today; that's quite a bill, and if I were Lowell I'd probably say something clever like "the bird really fits the bill for your blog!" Corny, huh?
Kate,
Thank you, again. I have fixed my termite post from yesterday to include the Ogden Nash poem that you were so kind and thoughtful to leave in your comment yesterday.
this is definitely a "thornbird".
Love the bird but, Kate's poem put a smile on my face.
This one has a beak like a hummingbird but looks much bigger.
Loved the poem and I'm glad you posted it for us all to see.

I hate Kate. No fair she can remember poems like that when I can barely remember what day it is.
