A line of pelicans cruising the top of a wave

We enjoy watching the pelicans fly by our Langosta condo.  They seem to use the beach as an aerial highway, as we see them flying up and down the beach often, but rarely see them inland, nor farther out to sea.

Sometimes they fly high, and other times, like this group, they fly at low altitude along the top of the breaking waves.  I suppose this gives them a view of fish to dive down to catch.

We have photos of the wildlife of Africa posted on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site this week.

They are such beautiful birds and I love the way they fly all together.

They are fun to watch flying in formation like that. Nice big wave crashing in too.

Love pelicans. When we first moved to Florida some 27 years ago, the brown pelican had become almost extinct due to the use of DDT. When that was outlawed, they began to come back and now there are many of them to lighten our days at the beach!

I love to watch the pelicans along the Sanibel coast line or down in the Everglades. Today I played golf (our place is about a mile from the gulf) and a lost pelican was diving the fish in one of the lakes.
