Ginger and heliconia plants add red accents to the jungle, as this ginger bud shows.
My high school debate partner from my youth in St. Louis County in the 1960's has a ginger farm in Costa Rica. It is a coincidence that we have both become property owners in Costa Rica decades later.
This week we have photos of the people of Ethiopia posted on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site.

I LOVE ginger. Until you started showing photos of the plant, I had no idea what it looked like growing.
It's a pretty bloom and with all that green a spot of bright red would be a nice accent.
Kind of odd that you and your friend both migrated to the same place. It's a small world!
It does add color, ver beautiful.
Small world, isn't it? Do you see your old friend when you are in Costa Rica?
I had no idea ginger looked like this. Carolyn, who grew up on a farm in Kansas, is the family biologist. Since I grew up in a cramped apartment in Queens I have to depend on her as my guide to the natural world.
Beautiful spot of color! Don't know what I thought ginger looked like, but I would not have thought it was such an attractive bloom such as this!
